THE DROP: AMY HELM

Description:
Amy Helm's musical roots sprung from a lifetime spent surrounded by expressions of American musical tradition. Although Didn't It Rain is her debut as a solo artist, it is hardly her introduction to the music industry. Helm has a decorated background as a musician, as the daughter of the Band's Levon Helm and singer/songwriter Libby Titus. She began her career as an instrumentalist for the alt-country collective Ollabelle. After spending years working and performing with the group, Helm joined her father's live Midnight Ramble Band. She credits her father as her most influential musical mentor, and helped him with many other projects, including serving as co-producer for his GRAMMY-winning 2007 album, Dirt Farmer. In turn, her father spent the last year of his life working as the executive producer and featured drummer on Didn't It Rain. The album contains 12 tracks of mostly original material, and a few select covers, including a personalized version of Sam Cooke's "Good News."
